FMCSA removed 10 ELDs from its registered list on July 9 and gave motor carriers using them up to 60 days to replace the devices. Carriers should treat the announcement as an inventory and change-control task, not only an IT notice.
First, match the provider, device name, model, and identifier in every truck against the current federal lists. Record the date of the check and the person who completed it. If a device is affected, export and preserve the required records before removing hardware or changing accounts.
Next, build a truck-by-truck transition schedule. Confirm the replacement is registered, installation is complete, engine data is synchronizing, and the driver can use the normal duty-status and transfer functions. Give dispatch and safety a visible completion status for each power unit.
Finally, keep the evidence. Save purchase and installation details, training acknowledgment, the first successful log review, and the official information that prompted the change. A short, documented process helps the carrier show that it identified the risk and acted deliberately.
